Jamil Ahmed
Though Jamil Ahmed’s contribution to Pakistani English literature is limited to just one book and one short story, the brilliance of his story telling is unparalleled. ‘The Wandering Falcon’ is a critically acclaimed novel that was published in 2011 when Ahmad was almost eighty years old. Having had worked as a civil servant in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kabul, Ahmed used the knowledge he had attained over the years of his service to give an unbiased and pure account of the Pakhtoons. Depending on how you understand the book, some think of it as a short story whilst others think it is a novel- either way the book is a must read. It is an altogether alternative depiction of the tribal areas before the times of the Taliban and the western media.
