Looking for the right gym can be quite the task, especially if you know nothing about fitness and it’s facilities. So, we’ve put together a starting task sheet so that you can narrow down your possibilities.
GYM HOURS FOR MEN AND WOMEN
The most obvious place to start when you’re narrowing your choices down are gym timings. Many gyms have flexible hours for mixed and men classes, but early morning or late afternoon only timings for women. Do check these out before you commit!
TRAINER VS NO TRAINER
Most gyms have a trainer on board to guide you with the equipment. Other gyms have group classes where the trainer is the focus. And some gyms charge extra for if you want a personal trainer.
VARIETY OF PROGRAMS
If you’re happy hitting the elliptical every time you’re in the gym, you should be alright with most places! However, if you desire a variety of fitness classes, you’ll need to do you research and find out what gym offers the most fitness programs.
FACILITIES AND AMENITIES
In Pakistan, you’ll find a mixture of “iron” gyms and fitness studios. If you’re someone that enjoys a fully equipped gym with all its amenities (showers, decked out changing rooms etc.), then fitness studios are out of the equation. If iron gyms intimidate you and you’d rather do bodyweight exercises instead, fitness studios will be more your style.
YOUR FITNESS GOAL
Above all, you need to define your fitness goal. Do you want to improve your cardiovascular stamina? Do you want to gain lean muscle? Or do you simple want to lose weight on the scale? This will also help you narrow down your options and hopefully find the gym that is right for you.
