I feel that the Pakistan Fashion Design Council deserves immense credit for contributing to the promotion of fashion in such a large way (both locally and globally). I look forward to showcasing my capsule collection! – Maheen Taseer
Maheen Taseer will be showcasing her capsule collection “Vaillant” as part of the Rising Talent segment at the PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week 2015. She spoke to SiddySays about her upcoming debut and here is what we talked about:
Do you have a formal degree in fashion?
I am actually a clinical psychologist by profession but have always loved fashion. So, I am happy to be finally giving shape to this passion.
What is it about the fashion world that drives you?
I think clothes are an extension of oneself, they speak a language of their own. You can express yourself, be unique, and stand out. In so many ways, it is what defines you in terms of your heritage, culture, style and inspirations.
Which designer do you look up to in the Pakistani Fashion Industry?
I have always loved wearing Élan and Sana Safinaz.
Who is your Muse?
I don’t have one. To me, fashion is ever changing, so I can’t narrow it down to just one person.
What is the inspiration behind your collection?
The inspiration behind my collection is ‘traditional’. It is all about going back to our roots and embracing all that is beautiful and vibrant in our culture.
What are the different crafts you have showcased in your collection?
I like reinventing traditional cuts and giving them a contemporary feel. Ethnic clothes with an international soul. My couture pieces highlight the best of Pakistani craft and tradition, mixed with a fusion of Western and Eastern silhouettes, that we have now made our own.
Who is the collection for? Describe the woman wearing your designs?
This collection is called Vaillant (french word for valiant). It is dedicated to my husbnd Shahbaz Taseer. These last four years have been excruciatingly hard but his strength and resilience is what keeps me motivated. I want to empower women and make them look and feel their best. An MGT woman is strong, determined and stands tall in adversity.
Why is this showcase important for you?
PFDC has become a vital platform to showcase the works of both emerging and existing talent in Pakistan. It has become synonymous with excellence, and the business of fashion.
Here is wishing Maheen Taseer best of luck for her coming debut! Stay tuned for more updates!
