Wedding season is in and it always puts us in the right kinda mood for looking at the season’s latest bridal trends. Which is why we were glad to be invited to the private viewing of Ammara Khan’s bridal collection ‘Memiors from a Moonlit Garden’ that gave us an exciting chance to look at all the gorgeous craftsmanship that goes into creating an Ammara Khan bridal. The designer had previously showcased the same collection at this year PLBW’15. Meanwhile, we also got a chance to speak to the designer exclusively on the subject of her collection and of course the bridal trends that this season will be looking at!
What is the inspiration for the collection?
The collection is inspired by the remembrance of a moonlit rendezvous in the wild garden of a bygone September. It marks the beginning of an eternal love.
There’s a wisp of hyacinth in the crisp air, a sweet sound of nighttime creatures and a slight shuffle as the trees sway to the songs of the wind. The silver moonbeams caress the wisteria and the weeping willows, and the stars twinkle to the melody of the stream. As they hold hands and stroll barefoot on the dewy grass, life could not have been more beautiful.
Why is it called ‘Memoirs from a Moonlit Garden’?
I wanted to give a poetic name to the collection that made the listeners understand and visualize the mood and ambience of when the collection conceptually came to life.
What are some of the current bridal trends?
Golds, silvers and metallic pastels with accents or bursts of colour. Shorter hemlines. Full, sheer sleeves. Lehngas.
What is the craft used for the collection?
I enjoy the use of different techniques of hand embellishment when creating my collections. This year I experimented with pigeon and pheasant feathers and silver leaf accents. Along with this I employed traditional gota, cut work, zardozi and vasli work.
What would your advice be to a bride for this season?
First and foremost be elegant and graceful. Choose a look that will compliment your personality. Every girl has dreamt of how she’ll be as a bride. Make sure you walk in wearing the gown of your dreams.
What is your brand’s design philosophy?
Luxury, exquisite craftsmanship and a harmonious blend of the classic and contemporary … is the essence of the Ammara Khan design philosophy. With a love for the ornate, Ammara Khan creates couture with a timeless view on elegance and style. Each piece is crafted with utmost passion and attention to detail, and is valued for years to come.
What are the essentials of a bridal ensemble?
The perfect silhouette, luxurious fabric, fine craftsmanship and a gorgeous colour palette are they key essentials to make a beautiful bridal gown. All of the above would be meaningless without the passion of the couturier, who puts her / his heart and soul into creating the dream gown in which the bride will walk down the aisle.
