Anyone who suffers from it, knows that insomnia is possibly one the hardest ailments to tackle. Believe it or not, your diet has a lot to do with your sleeping patterns. What you eat determines how you sleep. This goes without say; eating healthy means better sleep. However, there some foods that are particularly cumbersome to a goodnight’s rest. Here are the foods that are keeping you up all night;
Caffeine
This one is a no-brainer! Caffeine is known to be a stimulant that acts as a catalyst to getting rid of sleep. Having a cup of tea or coffee half an hour before you sleep may be one of the foods that are keeping you up all night.
Fluids
Yes, you heard that right. While water is an excellent agent for weight-loss and over all for a healthy lifestyle, drinking ample amounts of it before you sleep can cause you to wake up in the middle of the night for those unwanted pesky bathroom breaks. More than that, they interrupt your REM sleep as well. Avoid drinking water an hour to an hour & a half before you hit the sack.
Dairy Products
Certain dairy products can also be responsible for the lack of a solid sleep such as products containing Tryamine which is an amino acid abundantly found in foods that have aged and are fermented. Some of these foods include items such as cheese, smoked fish and meats that have been cured like sausages & red meat.
Chocolate
Last but not least is chocolate. Dark chocolate contains a hefty amount of caffeine- some dark bars even have as much as 80 milligrams of caffeine that equate to a red bull can. Basically, the darker the bar is more amount of caffeine is in it. Avoid consuming dark chocolate before you sleep!
