Though there is no real statistic available to support blog failure rate, most agree that only 10% of blogs launched every year actually succeed in gaining readership. With time people evolve and lose interest either in updating their blog or in returning as a reader. The reasons for blog failure can vary from loss of audience to loss of interest from the blogger, with everything in between. If you are planning to launch a blog or are suffering from minor blog failure, then these tricks and tips will hopefully help you remedy the problem.
SMALL FISH IN A BIG SEA
When launching your blog, remember that you are one of the many blogs on a particular subject area. There are literally thousands like you who want their blog to be a success. An idea may seem very original and niche and may seem to sell itself. You need to mark your territory in more ways than one. To gain readership you need to be focused, persistent, consistent and creative. As a blogger, you work very hard and the rewards will be absent altogether until and if your blog takes off.
HARD WORK DOESN’T MEANT SUCCESS
As a blogger you can put in hours of work into scripting the perfect back story to a picture that took you hours to take, of a cake that you spent half a day making. None of the hard work you put in immediately translates into success. It’s money out of your pocket and the pressure of gaining subscribers can be crippling.
THE LOST ART OF EMAIL
In the age of social media, email seems to be a lost art. Bloggers spend so much time on Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook that they often forget how important email can be in targeting new audience and updating their old ones. A Mailchimp study shows that the click rate from Facebook for target audience is 6.15% where as the same through email is 20%. Bloggers become so engrossed in “a picture speaks a thousand words” that they forget to speak actual words!
STICKING TO YOUR NICHE
Whilst it is great to have a specific subject matter that speaks to your audience, it can get monotonous and somewhat boring. People are so busy convincing themselves to stick to the matter at hand that they sift information to make it specific to their blog. Successful fashion blogs don’t just concentrate on fashion, they have content on everything ranging from travel locations, places to eat, interior decoration to parenting.
GOING VIRAL JUST THAT ONE TIME
Even failed blogs have had some success. Putting out a great story which has had many retweets and shares does not ensure success. Relying on that one time your blog went viral to keep it afloat is perhaps the silliest thing you can do. Sure, readers might come back once or twice but upon seeing no good content the likelihood of their return is next to none.
REPORT EVERYTHING
The worst strategy when you are either out of content or using fillers is relying on news reports to fill the content gap. This is a hit and miss strategy. Sometimes it works but most times it results in loss of readership. Readers don’t come to your blog for news reports, they come for content curated towards their interest and something that is original!
TOO BUSY TO BLOG
If you suddenly find yourself too busy to blog, publish a note on your page with a. Check back date. Many mildly successful blogs fail because they are abandoned.
