[tps_header]We’re generally not big on making resolutions, or believe in mantra’s like “new year, new you” kind of a thing, but we do know that shuffling your habits does make a difference, even if its psychological, because they give you perspective on how things should be when you’re adopting a new lifestyle. So, the idea of a home-made energy snack popped out of our heads while we were at the gym. We were running low on energy and realised that we needed a kick before we hit the next LIFT class. The energy bars you see in at Al Fatah and Jalal Sons, not all of them are carb/sugar free, so we decided to make our own with advice from a professional food expert! The recipe is simple and easy-to-make and packed with healthy nutrients because you will not only feel full, but great at the same time! One bar before you go the gym is good enough to beat the sweat!
RECIPE #1: DARK CHOCOLATE CHIP ENERGY BAR
DIRECTIONS
- Prep: 5-10 minutes
- Ready: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- Cornflakes
- Dates
- Roasted Almonds
- Roasted Walnuts
- Dried Figs (Injeer)
- Shredded Coconut Powder
- Honey
- Dark Chocolate Chips (optional)
- Mix all the ingredients. You can crush the almonds, walnuts and figs or cut them in small pieces. The dates will help maintain the stickiness of the mixture.
- You can add dark chocolate chip cookies as an option for taste, and also because dark chocolate is a natural energy booster and will give a kick to your endorphins.
- Spread the mixture on butter paper or cellophane wrap evenly and cut rectangle-shaped bars.
- Press the the dark chocolate chips on the top.
- Refrigerate until chilled for an hour.
RECIPE #2: DARK CHOCOLATE & PEANUT BUTTER
DIRECTIONS
- Prep: 5-10 minutes
- Ready: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- Cornflakes
- Dates
- Peanuts
- Peanut Butter
- Dried Fruits (figs and apricots)
- Dark Chocolate
- Mix all the ingredients. You can crush the almonds, walnuts and figs or cut them in small pieces. The dates will help maintain the stickiness of the mixture.
- Spread the mixture on butter paper or cellophane wrap evenly and cut rectangle-shaped bars.
- Cover the bars with melted dark chocolate.
- Refrigerate until chilled for an hour.
