Over the past few years, the typical mindset that was to portray Pakistani women as “subservient” has taken a U turn by writing strong female-oriented stories. From the time when we saw women staring into an abyss, hiding behind curtains and being asked to cover their heads before addressing someone from the opposite sex is a thing of the past now. There has been a major growth in the story line and we have TV shows that are reality based with female character portrayals that have impacted us in so many ways.
So, here’s a list of 5 strong Pakistani drama heroines who have, and continue to change lives with their roles.
SABA, KHAAS
Sanam Baloch in Khaas is shown as a strong and independent woman who wants to pursue her ambitions despite being married. She has dreams and hopes to have a well-rounded life, however she finds herself in a chaotic domestic situation which Sanam has delicately portrayed. This drama is a developing story, but so far Sanam has shown prowess in her craft as a woman who is doubting her self-worth, and being pushed to make decisions that she is unsure off. Over all, Sanam Baloch has made quiet the impact with her character Saba, and even though the audience may not be appreciating her for her stance, we want female-oriented roles to set an example for the women in our society so they can also do what is best for them.
