Last night was the 3rd week of yet another spell binding episode of drama serial Alif. So far all 3 episodes have been a swift watch, with a yearning for it to continue because of how the stories of each character is unraveling right in front of our eyes. Qalb-e-Momin’s deep rooted denial and struggles in life that have made him so hard-hearted and arrogant and Momina’s despair that puts her on the far end of the road, clueless.
Episode 3 was a beautiful watch because we not only saw a glimpse into what and how Qalb-e-Momin came to this juncture in life, but we also saw his stance dwindle.
MOMINA AND HER BATTLES
Momina is fighting her own battles in life. From her desperation to seek treatment for her ailing brother, to trying to live up to the hopes of her parents who depend on her, to her reluctance to pursue a career that she does not like has put Momina in an upsetting position. But the one thing she does love is her for art and calligraphy. We see a personal aspect of her life though where she had to break up with Faisal (played by Osman Khalid Butt) so she could focus on her brother’s health, which leads us to see that Momina finds her self lost in life, where in moments of silence she recollects her thoughts and thinks about life and at the same time she yearns for peace that could never attain in life.
YOUNG MOMIN
The flashbacks of young Momin are terribly heart warming and they make you want to feel much more for him and how bitter life was that a poor child had to abandon his notions and faith in Allah after being abandoned by a father and having to live with a mother who’s miserable state affected her child. We’re hoping for a clear answer in the future episodes as to why Taha (played by Ahsan Khan) disappears and why his father keeps on asking Husn-e-Jahan’s forgiveness.
HUSN-E-JAHAN’S FAMILY
With Husn-e-Jahan’s family in the picture we now know why she left them. They are hard and selfish people who only used her for her money and now that she was back with a broken heart and a child, they had no place for her except for Sultan. Momina’s father idolized Husn-e-Jahan because he saw her as a person and we can’t wait to watch how her story will unfold when Momina realizes how close her father was to Husn-e-Jahan and what she means to Qalb-e-Momin. If you look closely both Momina and Qalb-e-Momin’s lives are intertwined with each other from their faith, their craft, their hopelessness and families.
QALB-E-MOMIN’S REALITY
Momin’s Dada’s entry opened new doors to the story. He who saw his life in the papers, pictures, the parties and the lifestyle that he has chosen for himself put his Dada in a difficult place where he was worried and concerned for the person that he had become. Therefore when he asks Momin “tum khush ho”, was a knee jerker for Momin who didn’t realise that a mere question would shake the very cord of his soul and we’re sure that this is going to pave way for a more catarthic side of Qalb-e-Momin who will ask these very questions that he had avoided all his life.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Episode 3 of Alif was fantastic and its exciting to see all the characters gradually opening up in their own ways-happy or sad. Even though the you feel like the episodes quickly start and end, and probably that’s because the script is so precise, we love the whole vibe, time lapses and the way they story flashes from past to present and making sense all the while.
