Amidst the excitement of moving on to a cooler time of the year, and getting to layer up looking glam each day, consider this a friendly reminder: Winter Is Coming. And because of the shift in seasons, your skincare routine needs to get an upgrade too to suit the cold, drying spell.
AVOID HOT, LONG SHOWERS
Undoubtedly, a hot, long bath can be very relaxing but make sure to limit your time spent under a hot water shower during Winters as that can contribute to drying out your skin causing premature wrinkles and ageing spots.
LAYERING IS KEY
Protect your skin against the cold, harsh winds by layering up the hydrating products into your skin. Start with a hyaluronic acid first (it’s excellent for absorbing moisture in skin), apply a sheer layer of moisturiser next, and finish off with another layer of facial oil on top. For oily skin types, use water-based products instead and always give a 2-3 minutes long gap in between layering each product.
MAKE FRIENDS WITH FACE MASKS
To ensure that your skin stays plump and smooth, give your face some extra TLC by applying face masks. These are packed with botanicals, hyaluronic acid, Shea butter, and all those goody-good minerals that keep your skin looking soft and supple.
THE GRANDMA’S SECRET
No longer a secret, we suppose, but there’s a reason why your grandma’s ankles are still smoother than yours. Treat your cracked heels, chapped lips, and rough-looking hands with a generous layer of good ol’ Vaseline before going to bed, and wake up to smooth skin in the morning!
SUPER SPF
Just because the Sun seems to be hidden behind grey clouds does not allow you to skip your SPF. The UV rays are still out there and can potentially cause even more damage because of the cold and dry atmosphere around you.
STAY HYDRATED
The temperatures may have dropped dramatically but don’t let that affect your water intake. The human body is roughly 60-65% of water – hence every organ from your skin, hair, nails needs an ample amount of H2O to function properly. Give your body it’s due share of hydration!
ADHERE TO PERSONAL NEEDS
Listen intently to what your skin demands for. If your skin feels flaky, then switch your light summertime moisturiser to a thicker, richer formula. Exfoliate your skin at least once a week. And invest in a cream cleanser as foaming cleansers tend to be of a more drying nature.
