With the nationwide ban on plastic bags, the conversation on saving the environment has thankfully once again taken center stage. Cutting back on plastic bag protection is seriously a step in the right direction. But what else can we as individuals do to play our part?
UNSUBSCRIBE TO SPAM EMAILS
Emails leave a carbon footprint, and with around 70 trillion spam emails being sent out each year, 20 million tons of carbon dioxide is being released into our air. So go to your spam folder and unsubscribe from as many as you can.
SHOP LOCAL
While you might really enjoy granny smith apples from New Zealand, imported products just have a lot of mileage on them, which once again leaves a big carbon footprint. Buy products that are locally produced as much as possible.
UNPLUG YOUR CHARGER/BATTERIES
Leaving the charger in the socket means you’re still using a little bit of electricity. When you’re using it, unplug the charger from the socket or at least turn the switch off.
PURCHASE REUSABLE PRODUCTS INSTEAD OF “ONE TIME USE” ONLY
Similarly, avoid using paper cups or plastic spoons and forks. Anything that can only be used once is bad for the environment and ends up at a landfill somewhere.
CUT DOWN ON MEAT
More and more studies are proving how livestock farming is harmful to the environment. Cut back as much as you can; it would be good for your health, too!
