I don’t know about you, but I’m genuinely overwhelmed today. Who knew that 2020 would bring such devastation for the entire world, which, by the way, begs me to think, how uncertain life is and the future is predictable. The entire world is at a halt, but things have to move forwards and that brings me to the holy month of Ramzan.
How different will Ramzan 2020 be? We’re about 2 weeks away from pehla roza (Inshallah) and just like everything that’s been going on, Ramzan too will have a different meaning, and will bring about different set of changes this year.
ENTIRE FAMILIES WILL PRAY TOGETHER
With times in corona, since everybody is home, so for a change, the entire family will be praying together. There wont be any excuses of coming late from work right before iftar, or didn’t have time during working hours, we’re all going to be praying together.
TARAWIH AND ITIKAF WILl BE SKIPPED IN MASJID’S THIS YEAR
Like congregational prayers, special prayers like Tarawih’s will also be offered at home and people will not be able to go to masjids for itikaf this year too.
THERE WILL BE NO IFTAR PARTIES
Yes I’m sorry but don’t expect any invites this time around, unless you rebel against isolation and go ahead any way. But there will be no social meet ups at home or in restaurants. So be prepared for that. And you will be eating home-cooked, healthy food and that includes samosay and pakoray.
WE’LL BE SHOPPING ONLINE FOR EID
My heart sinks to think this way, but we might be seeing a lot of Eid shopping this year, which will hurt retailers on the whole. Sad to think that we wait for eid-ul-fitr every year and this time around, it’s going to be spent in isolation. Since people will not be directly buying from the markets, so we might see a boom in online shopping and more appropriately RTW.
WE MIGHT SEE AN INCREASE IN CHARITY
Although people have given a lot in charity for corona, but this time around we might see an increase in Ramzan 2020 in the from of Zakat.
