Umer Sharif was born on 19 April 1960 in Liaquatabad, Karachi. His actual name was Muhammad Umer. He was an all-in-one package. He was an actor, comedian, director, film producer, singer, songwriter, and tv host. Umer Sharif got his popularity for being “The King of Comedy” He is also one of the greatest comedians of South Asia. He started his career from stage dramas in 1974 at the age of 14 and was named Umer Zarif. His stage drama named “Bakra Qiston Pay” became very popular. Through his work, he won the hearts of many people not only in Pakistan but all over the world. But, after a long period of ailment, the legend is no more with us.
Humanitarian work
In 2006, Umer Sharif formed a welfare trust. The main purpose is to create a “state of the art health center” to provide free services to the people.
Started Hosting
In October 2009, Sharif began hosting his late-night talk show, The Shareef Show, on Geo TV. He interviewed many actors, entertainers, musicians, and politicians on the show. He also appeared as a guest judge in an Indian stand-up comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge with Navjot Singh Sidhu and Shekhar Suman. Many artists tried to copy him but failed and no one can beat him.
Awards
He won the National award for best director and actor for his super hit film Mr 420 in 1992. He also won 10 Nigar Awards and a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
Recent Health Crisis and Death
He died on 2 October 2021 in Germany around the age of 66. He was suffering from heart and kidney illness. And that led to his death. He was given initial treatment in Pakistan but was then sent across the country for better treatment. And the Sindh Government endorsed 40 million rupees to him for his treatment.
Dr. Muhammad Faisal tweeted, “With deep sorrow, it is announced that Mr. Umer Sharif has passed away. In #Germany. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our CG (consul general) is present at the hospital to assist the family in every way”.
But the true legends never die, they are always alive in people’s hearts. People’s love for Umer Sharif will never fade because he has given hundreds of funny moments to his fans that will last forever. All we can say is that may his soul always rest in peace.
