Ejaz Durrani (1 March)
Ejaz Durrani died on March 1 at the age of 86 in Lahore. He has performed in more than 150 films including Heer Ranjha, Shaheed, One of the Millions, Mirza Jutt, Zarqa, Dosti, and many others.
Kanwal Naseer (25 March)
She was the first female anchor of Pakistan Television, the first female newscaster, and the first female announcer. Leading radio and TV presenter Kanwal Naseer passed away on March 25 in Islamabad after a short illness. She was 73 years old at the time of her death.
Haseena Moin (26 March)
Pakistan’s most famous playwright, spectacular dramatist, and scriptwriter, Haseena Moin died on March 26 in Karachi at the age of 79. In 1987, she was awarded the Pride of Performance for her outstanding services to the performing arts.
Shaukat Ali (2 April)
Pakistani folk singer Shaukat Ali died at the age of 74. He started his career as a playback singer in the 1963 Pakistani film, Tees Maar Khan. Shaukat also fought in the 1965 war, which makes him popular for more times to come.
Sumbul Shahid (6 May)
A brilliant actor, Sumbul Shahid departed this world on May 6 after a long battle with the coronavirus. Sumbal was last seen in the drama serial Nand, which aired on ARY in 2021. She has also given some of the best performances.
Farooq Qaiser (14 May)
Farooq Qaiser is the man behind the legendary Uncle Sargam, who died on May 14 in Islamabad. The award-winning puppet was the most popular figure among children in the 1980s, the ’90s, and 2000s.
Begum Khursheed Shahid (27 June)
She died at the age of 95 in Lahore. Begum Khursheed started her career as a singer and actor in 1926 at the age of 9. Her most popular dramas include PTV’s Fehmida’s story, Ustani Rahat’s languages, Uncle Alias, and slips.
Anwar Iqbal Baloch (1 July)
Anwar Iqbal Baloch was a TV and film actor who made his first film in the Balochi language. He passed away on July 1 in Karachi. He was in the 70s.
Sultana Zafar (16 July)
Pakistani actress Sultana Zafar passed away on July 16 in the United States. She was 66 years old. She has acted in many popular dramas, including Loneliness, The Last Rock, and The Bride.
Naila Jaffri (17 July)
Leading TV actress Naila Jaffri passed away on July 17 due to cancer. She was known for her roles in drama serials Aa Mein Stana, Desi Girls, and Thori si Khushiyan.
Durdana Butt (12 August)
Durdana Butt is well known for starring in PTV’s best super hit series Fifty Fifty. She died on 12 August because of a Covid-19 infection. Even, recently, before her death, she had been appearing in dramas and keeping herself linked to the industry that gave her recognition.
Talat Iqbal (24 September)
Film and TV actor Talat Iqbal passed away on September 24 in Dallas. Talat played a major role in TV dramas from 1970 to 1980. He also acted in several films during his career and aced all his roles.
Omer Sharif (2 October)
Omer Sharif was a legendary comedian who became famous not only in Pakistan but across the border too. He died in Germany on 2 October because of Cardiac problems. His loss is a loss of Pakistan and people are still in grief upon his death.
Sohail Asghar (13 November)
Sohail Asghar, who worked in several popular PTV dramas, films, and theatre productions, passed away on November 13 in Lahore.
