MERI SHEHZADI EP 1: INTRODUCTION
The first episode of Meri Shehzadi opens well. We are at once introduced to the protagonist Dania (Urwa Hocane) an honest, young and beautiful girl living with her grandparents played by Shamim Hilaly and Qavi Khan. They greet Dania on her birthday with a book, a cake, fresh flowers, and her loved ones. Sadly, Dania’s birthday and her mother Zunaira’s death anniversary is one the same day. She was married to a politician Salahuddin (Noman Masood)who passed away after delivering Dania. Salahuddin remarried after Zunaira’s demise and this didn’t go well with Qavi and especially Shamim.
WHO IS DANIA
Dania comes across as a simple and honest girl whose philosophy of life is kindness, caring, and sharing love. In one scene, where Bisma asks Dania about her ideal life partner, she puts love and care before anything. She is so overwhelmed and touched by the love story of Salahuddin and Zunaira narrated by her grandmother that she hopes to experience the same.
The narrative moves forward and the family visits the graveyard to offer salutations Zunaira’s grave. Dania’s Nani and Nana further surprise her when her best friend Bisma arrives from Lahore.
Being into politics and facing immense pressure from his wife Salahuddin hardly gets time to meet Dania; so he sends her a cheque on her birthday every year. However, he arrives at Dania’s place, wishes her belated birthday greetings and invites her to a party at his home kept in honour of Riaz (Shabbir Jaan) on winning the CM post.
Dania and Bisma get ready to attend the party, and her grandmother asks her to wear her late mother’s earrings. On their arrival, Dania gets a cold response from everyone over there. She further gets insulted when she accidentally breaks a crystal flower vase and is scolded by her aunt played by Atiqa Odho.
At this point, we are introduced to Shehroze (Ali Rehman) Riaz’s foreign return son who helps Dania to get out of the situation. The episode concludes on a cliffhanger note when Shamim calls Riaz and questions him about his wife’s bad behavior towards Dania.
