College Gate continues to impress with its refreshing genre. The most important aspect that makes College Gate highly watchable is the idea of providing solutions to problems. The progressive aspect is the USP of Faheem Burney’s directorial. As the story steadily moves forward, viewers come to know about the various aspects and complications of the RTS College students. So what happened in episodes 5 & 6? Let’s discuss.
Annie’s (Maham Shahid) cousin Zunair comes to Pakistan forever. He is constantly trying to woo her and wants to marry her. He reaches her college to pick her up, takes her on a date etc. Annie’s mother played by Arjumand Rahim is not in favour of her daughter’s early marriage. She wants her to complete her studies and focus on her career. To get rid of Zunair, Annie fakes Wahaj as her boyfriend.
Wahaj Qureshi (Zarrar Khan) has failed his midterm examinations. His colleagues are surprised to see his result, they assume that the exit of music from his life has left him in deep depression. His father played by Javed Sheikh scolds him badly on this. His mother and sister however support him. They want Wahaj to have access to music for his soul satisfaction. After some time, Wahaj finally gets much-needed permission from his father. Zara continues to work for the betterment of the students. She discusses Wahaj’s case with the principal played by Saba Hameed and they decide to open an arts and music section in the college.
Bilal (Shuja Asad) is drowning deep in drugs and his attitude towards her mother played by Nadia Hussain is getting worse. He finds peace and relief in talking to his teacher Zara (Mashal Khan). Zara develops a good relationship with his fellow teacher. They go out to movies and dinners together. Usman Jutt (Khaqan Shahnawaz) brings in much-needed comic relief. He is surprised that the college bully Jahangir (Arsalan Khan) is head over heels with his hijabi friend Ayesha. Jahangir sends gifts for her via Usman which she refuses.
Faheem Burney has handled brilliantly the well-written material by writer Ali Sikander. His execution is top-notch, viewers delve deep into the lives of the students, their emotions and vulnerabilities. All the actors are given equal parts and they shine respectively. Mashal Khan is highly effective as a teacher who goes beyond the conventional methods of teaching that allow students to open wings and fly. Khaqan Shahnawaz’s comic timing is spot on. His scenes with Jahangir and the group are super fun to watch.
Summing it up so far, Miss Zara’s new teaching methods and emotional connection with the students help in discovering their strengths and weaknesses. Her equation with each student is a treat to watch out for. Watch College Gate every Wednesday and Thursday at 7 PM only on Green Entertainment.
