One word: Female Photographers. In a society where there is a lot of sexism, often women are given less opportunities as compared to their counterparts, or are paid less. However, in times like today, women deserve to be equally appreciated and championed for their role in every field, including Photography.
Pakistan has a ginormous amount of talented female photographers who are breaking the glass ceiling with the kind of work that they are doing. From fashion to weddings, corporate to travel, baby shoots to product photography – these girls aren’t just artists, but story tellers and dreamers with their own distinctive style, and it is only rightly justified to value their contribution today.
So, here’s a list of 6 female photographers in Pakistan who continue to do great and empowered work, and inspire us to do what you love.
NATASHA ZUBAIR
Natasha Zubair is generously gifted and we love her perspective behind every picture that she takes. The fact that she’s set a bench mark for the younger lot is commendable. What I personally like about her work is the natural earthiness and raw emotions in her outdoor shoots and the way with which she experiments with light and setting, is depicted in her pictures, and is truly a treat to watch.
FEROZA GULZAR
To be honest, I recently started following the much talented Feroza Gulzar, who’s a travel photographer and her pictures have this uniquely calm and discerning vibe behind her travel photos that she’s taken all over in Pakistan. Every picture tells a story and in that story, you are bound to find yourself and yearn to explore it on your own. And if this isn’t romantic, then I don’t know what is!
SARA IDREES
Once you start penetrate into Sara Idrees’s photography profile, wedding portrait shoots, to be specific, you’ll want to get married. The way with which she captures the love and unfiltered emotions and connects with the people in every picture that she’s taken, is pure magic. There’s an intimacy, heart and soul, and most importantly, a rare kind of ingenuity in her work that one can’t speak about. (
Please marry me, again?)
PICTROIZZAH
Izzah Shaeen Malik popularly known Pictroizzah is diverse with her work. She’s a young burgeoning talent bubbling with creative ideas that show in her work in fashion, weddings and corporate shoots. And having her seen her in action is truly commendable. It’s amazing that she’s found her setting in a whirlpool of so many other female photographers and be recognized for her work. Empowering, isn’t it?
SEEMAB SAQIB KHAN
Seemab Saqib Khan is bursting with so much talent, it’s so inspiring. What I like about her profile is that even though every picture may look the same, but if you look closer, it will have a different expression of mood, vibe, and setting. The fashion portraits are very rustic yet defined in nature, and that’s why she’s one of the 6 female photographers in our list.
MAHOOR JAMAL
When you take one look at Mahoor Jamal’s work, you’ll find elements of light behind the dark tones. There’s an ache for hope and remembrance in her pictures that I am always struck by because Mahoor’s work is like poetry, it’s flowing and the rush will grow with her. There is so much depth in her work.
