My grandmother used to had this soft outgrowth hanging down from her eyelid. All my childhood I have seen her living with it. You may also have noticed these outgrowths, called skin tags, in elderly and young people alike. These are non-cancerous, soft projections of skin that may appear in the folds of skin, due to rubbing. like at eyelids, armpits, groin, and under the breasts. These usually have a stalk also.
WHAT CAUSES SKIN TAGS
No definite cause of skin tags has been identified so far but many speculations do exist. These relate the appearance of skin tags to hormonal changes, pregnancy, obesity, HPV infections, and type 2 diabetes. These are also regarded as an external symptom of heart problems, hardening of arteries, and elevated cholesterol levels.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN GET RID OF SKIN TAGS AT HOME
Needless to mention nobody wants to live with a skin tag (poor fella). But as you might expect these do not go away on their own except rarely when they might fall off. Modern cosmetic world has loads of ways to get rid of pretty much anything on your skin that annoys you and skin tags are no exception. These can be excised, snipped, burnt, dealt via cryotherapy, or by using some over the counter chemical as well. The selection of treatment is largely affected by the location of a skin tag.
Since not everybody would like to end up under a blade here we have listed some home remedies you can use to tackle these not so good looking dermal projections.
BANANA PEEL
Banana helps to lift your mood and its peel might aid in lifting the skin tag off your skin. Cut a small piece of banana peel and paste it on pre-cleaned skin tag using a bandage. Leave overnight. Repeat until the skin tag falls off.
GARLIC PASTE
Ignoring the horrendous odor it has, applying a paste of 2-3 garlic cloves nightly over a skin tag may help you regain smooth skin. Repeat this procedure for three consecutive nights and you will see positive results.
ALOE VERA GEL
Aloe vera is known for its wound healing and skin-friendly properties. Apply aloe vera gel over the skin tag and rub it in. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times per day until you get rid of the skin tag.
OREGANO + COCONUT OIL
Oregano oil has antimicrobial properties and coconut oil has potent germ-fighting ingredients. Mix 2-3 drops of oregano oil with 4-5 drops of coconut oil and smooth it over skin tag 2-3 times a day. The skin tag will get dark, dry, and eventually will fall off.
Many people try to excise skin tags at home using chemical and mechanical methods. Just be sure to see a doctor or a dermatologist before any such attempt. Don’t strangulate large skin tags or those near eyes or genitals at home. This might lead to serious problems.
