International women’s day is celebrated all around the world on the 8th of March every year and it has been a very important day in the movement of women’s rights. Despite the fact that there shouldn’t be a specific day to celebrate women, this day serves as a reminder of the strong, bold women from around the globe who should be appreciated, supported and honored.
We believe that the perfect way to celebrate this year’s women’s day is to sit back, grab some popcorn and binge watch ‘Churails’. Honestly speaking, it’s the perfect show to watch on this day and here are five reasons why we think so:
ITS REFRESHING
Breaking from the shackles of typical storylines centered on marriage etc. this web-series is a breath of fresh air. Usually what we see on our televisions are the same dragged out stories of “saasbahu”. ‘Churails’, however, is nothing like that. It challenges all the norms and stereotypes of our society and hence gives viewers something completely different to watch with an open-mind.
IS A PERFECT WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN WATCH
Once again the series proves itself to be a worthy watch this women’s day (in fact any day) as it portrays strong women who support each other. Usually we are accustomed to seeing women bring each other down on television, fighting each other over petty issues, instead of uplifting and supporting one another. ‘Churails’, on the other hand, focuses on how when strong women come together, magic happens and the patriarchy is threatened.
YOU WILL SEE WOMEN IN UNCONVENTIONAL ROLES
‘Churails’ has definitely made its mark by showcasing women in roles they have not been seen in before. For instance, SarwatGillani, who plays the role of a lawyer who has turned into a stay at home mother, Yasra Rizvi, an addict wedding planner, NimraBucha, who depicts the role of a murderer and Meharbano, who breaks all stereotypes and depicts the role of a boxer. What’s unconventional is how these four bold women from different backgrounds come together to form a detective agency to expose sleazy men.
EXPOSES INFIDELITY IN RELATIONSHIPS
It exposes infidelity in relationships, something women in Pakistan are struggling to accept and mostly be aware off. The four main characters all come together and open up a detective agency in the guise of a conservative women’s clothing store and work together in order to expose their husband’s infidelities amongst the elite.
CHALLENGES PATRIARCHY
Probably one of the best things about this series is the way that this show has threatened the patriarchy. The series has really helped many women realize so many things that were and are still currently wrong concerning their lives and the deep-rooted patriarchal rule in our society. ‘Churails’ has inspired and encouraged a lot of women to come forward and expose the truth and follow their hearts.
If we’re being honest, we could go on for days explaining why ‘Churails’ is the perfect watch for women’s day but we would rather you go watch it and see for yourself. So what are you waiting for? Watch it and tell us what you think!
