Recently a pool of diverse Influencers took over the gram by posting monochromatic images showing their backs by wearing different hairstyles along with a caption that caught our attention. Girls in Pakistan have been facing backlash from the society at large, and struggle on a daily basis to become the smart, independent and confident girls of today simply because of their gender. Their efforts are systematically over looked and therefore are pulled down for not conforming to the rules that are ingrained by the society. Consequently, these social media influencers took the step to emphasize on the roadblocks that are hampering every girl’s growth underlined by the archaic statement, “log kyakahaingay” (what will people say).
LET’S GET LOUDER
A picture is worth a thousand words and the striking monochromatic images all over Instagram managed to catch attention. Sunsilk’s #ShaanSeShine campaign gave manygirls a platform to speak up and take the lead to bring down obstacles so we all can move forward towards positivity and development. The same Influencers who posted black and white images later posted videos and narrated their personal stories about the things that they have had to hear from the society for wanting to achieve their goals. What is inspiring though is that these girls challenged the society by breaking gender stereotypes and showed that girls are also strong and determined to achieve the impossible.

GIRLS INSPIRING OTHER GIRLS
From Zenith Irfan, Pakistan’s first motorcycle girl who traveled up North to Sawera Pasha, Sports Journalist/Presenter, AmtulBaweja, Comedian, Entrepreneur, Travel Blogger to Iqra Aziz, leading Actress, Hajra Khan, Captain of Pakistan’s Girls Football Team to Amafah Mubashir, Yoga Instructor- they’re few of the examples of power girls from all walks of life who struck back in the face of societal pressures and conventions by following their dreams and attaining their goals. And it is the very diversity and impact of these girls from multiple professions and their personal experiences that show, that gender stereotypes should not limit the capacity and strength of girls.
THE IMPACT OF SUNSILK #SHAANSESHINE BLACK SHINE CAMPAIGN
The impact of Sunsilk’s #ShaanSeShine has been overwhelming because it talks about empowerment and the need of such strong and thought-provoking ideas because we need to divert the conversation from “what girls shouldn’t do” to “what girls should do” to have their own individuality and not just be pigeonholed as a home maker, wife and mother.
The brand stood out with their #ShaanSeShine Black Shine campaign because it is imperative to start busting gender roles not just for ourselves but for the future generations since children have the natural ability to see the world as limitless. Therefore it is upon us to open our minds to see new things and avoid labeling, opening possibilities regardless of gender.
