About a year and half ago, I almost ended up traveling alone to a much-needed escapade to the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka, despite having my family and friends nudge me from time-to-time about the hazards women face when traveling alone. But I was adamant on stepping out of the confines put upon on us by society that we’re not safe without a man-figure by our side, however this notion was not quiet enough to stop me from embracing the many rewards that come with traveling solo.
… But then, BOOM! Fate had other plans! Anyway, I’m going to save the story behind what caused a delay in my travel plan for another time, in the mean while, I turned for inspiration towards a couple of woman who have dared to venture out, SOLO.
So, let’s hear what these women had to say about traveling on their own and how it has shaped them.
IT’S A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME ADVENTURE
It’s going to be an experience of a life time full of emotions, power, compromise, mistakes, lessons, uncovering the truth about life, and just the sheet beauty of being on your own and loving yourself as who you are. In short, it’ll be worth it!
YOU FEEL EMPOWERED
You have the power to do whatever you want on your time, nobody can make the rules for you. It will be scary at first, but if you’re smart enough to take all the necessary measures and be on it, you’ll discover that you’re a total rock chick!
IT BOOSTS YOUR CONFIDENCE
Even though it may begin as a scary journey once you’ve packed your bags, but that one step is going to open many doors for you, a door towards freedom, expression and the confidence to spread your wings.
YOU REDISCOVER WHO YOU ARE
Life changes you, one poor decision, a job that you don’t love anymore, indecisiveness, heart break and what not, traveling solo gives you time for introspection and self-growth, and it also heals you on the way of rediscovering who you are, what you need to do, and how you need to get where you want.
YOU LEARN TO BE RESPONSIBLE
Be it for your own well being, your safety, finances etc, you learn to be practical in all the important matters of life that will always come in handy.
YOU ARE FREE
Why every girl should travel once all by herself is because you are free to do whatever you want to and whenever you want to, and are responsible for your own actions. This is the perhaps the biggest perk of going solo.
YOU’RE GOING TO THANK YOURSELF ONE DAY
It may sound ridiculous if you haven’t traveled solo yet, however you are going to literally thank yourself one day for embarking on one of the toughest journey’s of your life. It will the most satisfying experience coupled with the kick-start in blowing up your self-confidence, and more importantly, a sense of achievement. And once you open the gateway to your wanderlust, you never know where you might end up next.
