From hitting royally pop notes to soul-searching music and electronic dance beats, music is their first language, which is why we decided to have a rundown of some of the famous young artists and their songs that their XENNIAL counterparts have been listening to, ON REPEAT because they still sound so good to the ears, and then some who we need to watch out for, because they’re in it to win it!
Love Yourself: Justin Beiber
Penned by Ed Sheeran and JB himself, Love Yourself is an earth-salting acoustic pop song with minimal arrangement that pops every lyric sung in that song and gradually starts resonating. From his fourth album, Purpose: The Movement, Love Yourself landed JB on the number 1 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 and US Mainstream Billboard Top 40 in 2016 which revealed JB’s full scope of massive pop artist from his millennia. Love Yourself was nominated for a Grammy for “song of the year” in 2016.
Bad Liar: Selena Gomez
One of Selena Gomez’s best song track to date. Can we just stop for a moment and appreciate how wonderfully SelGo matured from her being a star-child to beautiful and strong woman? And her music speaks for the magical moment when Bad Liar came out as a mid-tempo pop rock tune inspired by Selena Gomez’s favorite American band, Talking Heads. Bad Liar landed the number 1 spot Billboard’s Best Song of 2017.
Photograph: Ed Sheeran
Photograph is a simple song that reminisces about loss, love, memories and pain – but it generally had a positive effect where the melody creeps up on you. Not every song has to be complicated and Photograph from Ed Sheeran’s second albumn serves that element and is a mere narration of his breakup from Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt.
Havana ft. Young Thug: Camila Cabello
Havana exudes the Cuban-American singer, Camila Cabello’s stunning latin flare as she embraces her Cuban heritage in this mid-tempo track, reaching the 2nd spot in the US Billboard Hot 100 revealing her as new artist that we definitely need to look out for.
Dawn till Dusk: Zayn Malik ft. Sia
Zayn Malik embraced his pop roots in this powerful pop ballad in Dawn till Dusk featuring Sia. Apparently the song was a massive cinematic duet that “starts off as a gorgeous, romantic mid-tempo and builds to a thrashing sing-along chorus that will echo around stadiums in no time” (source MTV)
Star Boy ft. Daft Punk: The Weekend
Star Boy became The Weekend’s third char topping song and was a huge collaboration with the French electronic duo Daft Punk and was an R&B, electronic pop and hip-hop songs ranking as one of the best songs of 2016 (and still going strong).
New Rules: Dua Lipa
Someone definitely to look out for, New Rules stands for women empowerment and is every girl’s national anthem. Dua Lipa is an English singer with a tropical house and electro pop beat in New Rules because the track has garnered huge commercial success, because this track was a summer hit of 2017.
